Poor quality knobs and stainless steel

I purchased an entire kitchen on cafe appliances thinking they were high quality. The cooktop has plastic knobs with a cheap overlay. The cooktop stainless steel also scratches so easily. Cheaply made. I have owned stainless steel appliances for years and know how to take care of them. The stainless steel knob overlay peels because it™€™s defective and cheaply made not from taking care of it incorrectly. My cooktop is only 1 year and 8 months old. GE told me its out of warranty and is a cosmetic issues so they do not and will not reimburse the knobs in full. I guess they do not care that this appliance is on full display in my new kitchen for all to see of cheaply made it is. I also have told anyone who comes in my house that they do not care. So disappointed.

Poor finish

Finish on cooktop 8/23/2025

While the product looks attractive and works fine, the finish is less than expected. The stainless scratches easy. One burner knob has a finish defect. The round black burner covers stain with the very first use and cannot get them clean. The griddle cooktop is so rough I don™€™t know how you would use it.

This cooktop is just OK. The material is cheaply made. Knobs are PLASTIC and if you touch the tops with a hot pot/pan they will melt (plastic) and leave a serious scaring on the knob. I have been looking for full metal knobs, but I can't find any that will fit this configuration. When cleaning, it scratches super easy - be very very careful cleaning it. Not a fan and I won't buy this brand again.

Love Cafe, Hate Bodewell service

I love my new GE Cafe appliances. Last year I replaced my double oven, gas cooktop and downdraft vent and refrigerator with Cafe. However, the Bodewell service absolutely stinks. The downdraft vent motor has apparently died, and parts were ordered with a second service visit scheduled. Had to take the day off from work to meet the four hour window. God help me, I walked away from my phone for a few minutes and the technician called at 2:31 pm. At 2:35 pm I'm getting a call from the service center to reschedule. Are you truly kidding me????? What kind of a system is THIS? So, just be sure you can stay at home and glue your phone to your arm.

Beware the plastic knobs!

We chose Cafe series appliances for our new custom home because we thought it was an upgraded line from a no-nonsense company with renowned support in case we ever needed it. Why in the world would the knobs be plastic when everything else on the appliance is metal??? In less than four months we've damaged two of them, because they sit about 1/4" above the cooktop where any inadvertent brush with a hot pan will surely melt the top. Be sure to factor $40 apiece into your cost of ownership. I've searched the internet for any metal replacements but there aren't any. I am hoping that the company will come to its senses and offer a metal option. Until then, I cannot recommend this appliance due to the aggravation factor.

Coating isn't up to par

We chose to go with a full suite of Cafe appliances (oven, microwave, stovetop, dishwasher) in one of our homes. So far everything has been good except the stovetop, knobs are plastic. I understand why, but not thrilled with the lifespan of the coating on the knobs. Additionally, no warranty or replacement offered on the knobs; expect you to pay additional for faulty quality.

I have had my cafe' gas cook top for about 2 years now. I am sorry I bought it. It started scratching the first time I used it. The little pieces of food actually scratch it when your wiping it up with a dish rag of just a sponge! It's a mess and the burner covers are completely discolored. I do like the power burner and the small burner.

I love the lighted knobs, but the knobs are not installed straight. It looks strange, when they are on with the lights uneven. One of the black rubber pads under the grate was not installed. The grate rocks a bit. I love the cleanability of the surface and appreciate the sealed heating element to keep spills out. Overall, I like the product.

This cooktop is amazing, at least so far. Boils water very quickly and heats pots and pans evenly. The medal rack feels sturdy and pots sit flat with no wiggle. Also easy to clean and looks fantastic. Love how sturdy the knobs are and how they are illuminated from underneath. Hope it lasts a long time!
